About the Lake Harriet Dance Center
In 1980 the Lake Harriet Dance Center opened in the Linden Hills Area and, after fifteen years, moved to it’s current location on Lyndale near 66th. Since it opened, the studio has grown and matured into one of Minneapolis’ most reputable dance centers. This well-rounded studio nurtures and trains dancers from 4 years old through adult. The staff believes that, in addition to training dancers, they are instilling in the students not only a love of dance, but also a sense of self-worth and accomplishment. Because the Dance Center endorses the philosophy that dance is an art form, not a sport, the studio does not perform in competitions. The children also perform in 2 recitals; Winter and Spring. Everything we put into teaching, nurturing, and giving performances gives continuity to the students, offering a broad range of classes, allowing them the opportunity to grow.

About the Director
Connie Murray is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, actress, singer, and the founder of the Lake Harriet Dance Center. She began her training in dance at age 4. At the age of 16 she began dancing with a professional group of dancers doing convention and entertainment work for Don Stoltz at the Old Log Theater. She danced in Miami, Las Vegas, The Bahamas. and New York. She has performed in shows with such stars as Jimmy Durante, Norm Crosby, Louis Nye, and the Smothers Brothers. Her work with theaters in the Twin Cities area includes over thirty shows as dancer, choreographer, or both. She has forty years of experience in choreography for high schools and community centers such as the St. Paul Jewish Community Center, Temple Aaron, and Holy Angels Academy. She has donated her time as a choreographer for many community and civic events. Helping create Lake Harriet Dance Center was a pivotal time in her career since she felt her true purpose of helping young dancers discover their talent was coming true. Throughout this time and presently she continues her ballet, tap, and jazz studies locally, nationally, and internationally. She has studied with Minnesota Jazz, Ozone, Zenon, and Pineapple Studios in London. These studies have also taken her to Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. Each summer she continues her pursuit in keeping with the current styles of dance. Dancing is her life and teaching is her love.

Sherri Dahlmeir started dancing at age 5. During high school, she continued her dance education with a scholarship at the Minnesota Jazz Company for four years where she learned her technique in ballet, jazz, and tap. She is currently studying under Becky Stanchfield at Zenon Dance Company. Sherri has been teaching with her mother, Connie, at the Lake Harriet Dance Center for 15 years. She thoroughly enjoys working with the children, helping them become the best dancers they can be. She brings fresh ideas and vigor to the classes. We are lucky to have her.
